A flat plate solar collector for horizontal mounting, with a gross area of 2.65 m². The absorber is made of an aluminium sheet laser-welded to a copper meander and covered with a highly selective coating.

Construction

  1. Casing and cover

    A rigid frame bent from an aluminium profile patented by ensol, closed underneath with an aluminium sheet. The cover is 4 mm tempered solar glass with high transmittance; the way the pane is mounted keeps the casing tight and minimises thermal stress.

  2. Meander absorber

    An aluminium sheet with a highly selective coating (95% absorption, 5% emission), laser-welded to a system of copper pipes. The meander layout gives even heat pick-up by the circulating medium.

  3. Insulation and mounting

    Heat losses are limited by 40 mm of mineral wool underneath and 8 mm of melamine foam at the sides. Aluminium and stainless steel mounting kits fix the collector to roofs at a range of pitches.
